Our History

Hotel Kulim was established in 1982 by the Tan Brothers. Built on the site where it was originally a humble coffee shop run by their mother Madam Cheah, the Hotel was once the tallest building in town. Madam Cheah continued to run the Hotel until she was too frail to continue. More employees were hired to help run the Hotel. Now, to maintain the business a family affair, the son of the older Tan brother, Ryan Tan has taken over the running of the business.

In line with the upgradation of Kulim to city status, Ryan wanted to bring the Hotel into the 21st Century and to keep up with competitions. So the first thing that Ryan undertakes is to carry out major update and modernisation works to the building. Occupying the third and fourth floors of the building, the Hotel now consists of 12 fully air-conditioned rooms, 10 of which boasts its own en-suite bathroom.  New bedroom furniture have been fitted in all the rooms and there is now a television in each room. CCTV cameras will also be installed at the entrance and main lobby area to provide patrons with extra security.

From inception, the main objective of the Hotel has been to provide affordable, clean and comfortable place for outstation travellers to have a good night rest. Throughout the eighties and early nineties, it has served as the main accommodation for the countless people involved in the development of the Kulim Hi-Tech area and Ryan intends to maintain the original business values.
